Midnight Music

As you can see this is me and my twin sister in blogworld, Linda M talking about the "Noisettes". I 've been hearing their music at my job, for a while now and I found out who they were a couple of weeks ago. Aren't they great?!

More Noise!

hmmm.... ok

My Easter, which was last Sunday for you heathens, ...(I mean people that just didn't know), went well. I went a church in Mount Vernon, which had over a 1,000 people which was great, bumped into an old a friend and waited forever for some good food. Thanks Mommmy! Anyway I wanted to post this video a while ago, but as you can see I haven't posted anything in sometime, but here is a video with Minster Cleo Clariet and his enthusiastic fiancee... ( if you watch the video, I use this term lightly..). I believe the secret message that Minster Clariet was trying to tell us was.. there's no food in Heaven so eat everything now and spend the rest of your living days on the toilet.... that might not be a bad idea...

I'm gonna make sure they see your face

Isn't it a nice face to see! LOL

I found an old article that I wrote maybe a year ago about Kenna for my Music Publishing class. Billboard Magazine was our text book and our weekly assignments were Billboard reviews. This is what I wrote for my assignment as a summary of the article:

2003 was supposed to be the year of Kenna. With his sound of Pop, Rock and Alternative combined , he opened for popular bands such as No Doubt and Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode’ He was signed to Colombia records and his first album "New Sacred Cow” was produced by superstar duo, the Neptunes. Instead his album only sold 2,000 copies in the U.S. Now Kenna is taking a chance to enter the U.S market again with his current album release "Make Sure They See My Face," which is on the Billboard 200 at No.124 and at No.1 on the Heatseeker charts. Along with his record deal on Star Trak records a label stated by the Neptunes, he has gone on tour with Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake as a guest artist and unlike other new artist understands that radio and the music industry in general is money and business. He says “"If I were to describe the industry as I see it now, it comes down to one question: does it matter? Does the music matter? Does the artist matter? Did it matter beyond meetings about quarters and numbers? I'm learning what it matters to me and to my family and friends around me now."

And this was my response to my article:
Until I read this article I had never heard of Kenna, so I decided to do some research on his music. After listening and watching his music videos on youtube, it is easy to understand why he hasn’t made it big in the U.S. His music and video concepts are different and unique. In simpler words, Americans wouldn’t automatically be interested in his sound. I’m sure Columbia records had no idea how to market Kenna. He’s a black artist who isn’t doing the typical R&B/ Hip hop music, with liquor and girls all over his videos. Instead, his videos are animated with clay figures trying to find true happiness, accompanied with his smooth voice. His lyrics ask questions and his videos give answers. However, a majority of mainstream American music listeners don’t want to her questions or answers. They want good time party music. With the help of the Neptunes, who also have a unique sound, I believe that they can find Kenna an audience of his own. Since he isn’t depending on the radio to find his audience, he now has the outlook to find his target somewhere else.

Ok now let's return to 2009:
A part of me I still feel this way when it comes to Kenna. I have been able to turn a number of friends into fans or at least to maybe recognize him, whenever they see a picture. The music scene changes constantly. People always like " different" or " non-mainstream" music. However only a selected few " non-commercial" artists are able to be shown in the light, and then just like everyone else, that staying power has to kick in. I want Kenna to have his time in the limelight too, but maybe it's better this way.

FYE I have picked my favorite songs/videos of Kenna

I couldn't post the video for this song " Hell Bent". This is the first song I've ever heard of his and it's from his first album, "Sacred Cow"
"Hell Bent"

The 2009 Grammy nominated song, " Say Goodbye to Love". This is from his second album " Make sure they see my face".

Everyone likes Kenna! Even author Malcolm Galdwell, dedicated a chapter of his well know book, " Blink" to Kenna. Now you know the boy has to be talented.

It can all be taking away...

This past Saturday, I was hanging out with a friend of mine from college. She graduated from Manhattanville College last May. She slips her time between upstate NY and the Bronx, so I don't see her too much. We were in the White Plains Galleria, taking a food break, when I heard an elderly lady on my right whisper " Excuse me". when I turned around she was looking down, so I assumed she wasn't talking to me. About 10 minutes later, I hear her say " Excuse me" again. " Can I sit with you?; you seem like nice people." Ummm.... is this woman crazy, sis what I was thinking. Despite our confusion, we let her sit next to us. We asked her questions, but she couldn't remember anything. The only thing she know was that she had been in an accident that caused her to forget pretty much everything. " It's a terrible thing to happen to anyone" she said, " I hope it doesn't happen to you, you're nice people" I was about to get the police, when her caretaker returned. It turns out that ever since her husband died of Parkinson's diseases and her accident she can't remember anything, not even her own daughter and having a caretaker is essential.

This story is soo sad but I know it's not the only one like this out there. That elderly woman is pretty much alone in the world. I wonder if she every feels like taking her own life.. . I wonder how abandoned her daughter must feel, not being able to properly interact with her mother having their common personal memories stolen... I hope this never happens to anyone.

Songs that I'm feeling....currently...

Let's face it, she's the only one that matters anyway.....

I've always been a 1/8th fan of the Pussycat dolls. By 1/8th fan, I mean, I've liked pretty much all of their singles. The sound has always been consistent, light pop, catchy beat, simple lyrics, pretty ladies dancing and one pretty lady singing. I would never purchase their music or go to a concert of theirs or even be excited to watch them perform on TV. However since I've heard songs from the music group's( I use that term lightly) newest album, " Doll Domination" I just might become a 1/4th fan of PCD, because it doesn't seem to be that bad. I've loved all the singles and I think I may just purchase the album. Anyway one of their latest singles is" Jai Ho", which is a remake ( I guess) of the song " Jai Ho" from the beloved Oscar wining film " Slumgdog Millionaire". It's a really catchy song, but so is the original, which sounds just like it.... sooo.. Either way I'm still feeling it

I never understood why Nicole and occasionally Melody( who I believe thinks she sounds better than she actually does..she doesn't sound bad at all but she's no MC)are the only ones that sing. How many other girls are there in that group? 5 or 4? Why don't the other what ever their names are even hit a note? I think I heard one of the other dolls( aka just the backup dancer # 3) sing a couple of years ago in the beginning of the group's career. I don't remember how she sounds, and I have a strong feeling it isn't important

Question of the Day: Real Talk: Where does Mister Softee go during the Winter?

It was two New York summers ago, I was walking down the block with two friends. We heard Mister Softee's trademark song that he jacked from Scott Joplin, probably 50 years ago... and we passed a woman who asked her friend, " I wonder where Mister Softee goes for the Winter." When we heard her question we laughed, but 10 mins later, we realized that we had no real answer to her question. So what does the guy who drives the Mister Softee truck do during the cold months? Does he have a second job? Is he a mall Santa? Does he collect unemployment? How do you even end up being Mister Softee, bringing joy to children from the suburbs to the projects. This is real talk( Thanks T.I for your major influence on my everyday language..), I need answers....

Lupe Fiasco

Ok. So it's official. I have been a Lupe stan for about 2 months now. I know he has been on the music scene ( or when people finally began to notice him) since 2005, with his album, " Food and Liqour. I'm going to be honest, I saw him, but I never really listened; however, since I heard his last album " The Cool" I've been all over him. He has me wanting to eat bean pies.. Yes I know I'm late, and its been out for a while (or it's just hitting that 2 year mark, pick one), but it's one of the greatest albums I have ever listened too and I've heard many great albums. It just flows so well, most likely due to the lyrics, the production, the order of the songs and soo much more. And he has 19 songs on this album! How many records actually have more than 12 songs nowadays? It is soo worth the money and much more. So I advice you to find your way to itunes or where ever you buy your music from and get " The Cool". And if you don't want to purchase his music just for your own pleasure, do it for me. My future babydaddy is gonna need some money. Do it for the Kids......

Songs to look out for on the album..
1) Go Go Gadget Flow
2) Go Baby
3)Dumb it Down
4)Little Weapon
5)Hi-Definition
6)The Coolest
